But Jesus called them to him, saying, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." - Luke 18:16-17 (ESV)
Children are welcomed and valued at Good Shepherd. We believe they are a gift from God. We not only view our children as the "church of the future," but as the church of the present. We want to support families as they seek to raise their children to love God.
On a Sunday you can expect your child to learn about the Bible, pray, sing, share, have an allergy free snack with juice while learning how to apply the Bible through something creative and memorable - like a craft, story or song. We use the curriculum “Learn from the Bible to Live the Good News” as a teaching tool for the children.
At Good Shepherd our mission is to: Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, equip people to grow in faith, and Share God's Love. One of the ways we do that is through our children's ministry. Our desire is that our children will know Christ as Lord and Saviour and make him known in their families, schools, and communities.
Sunday school and nursery are places where we pass on to the next generation, "the faith once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude v. 3). In 2 Timothy 1:5, St Paul recalls how the faith is passed on from generation to generation. He writes to his young mentor Timothy:
"I (Paul) am reminded of your (Timothy's) sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you."
We want to keep that going. We want to keep passing the torch of faith to our children so that the gospel will continue to spread to future generations until Jesus returns.
Throughout the years many children have come to know Christ and make him known in their schools and communities through our children's ministry. We thank God for this amazing ministry!
Please note: Our Sunday School has two volunteers in every classroom. All of our volunteers have cleared a Criminal Reference Check with the OPP.
